Overview
The meeting is part of the EHA Topics-in-Focus (TIF) Hemoglobinopathies Program. The goal of this program is to educate and expand awareness of increasingly common genetic diseases like sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia while also developing and optimizing a European regulatory framework for them.

- Molecular Basis of thalassemia and genetic modifiers
- Pathological erythropoiesis and BM niche related to SCD & B-Thalassemia
- Pathophysiology of SCD & Thalassemia linked to organ complications
- Management of NTDT and phenoconversion with a focus on alpha thalassemia
- Iron chelation
- Transfusion strategies and pediatric care
- Thrombotic, cardiac, liver and hypertension complications management
- Key imaging in hemoglobinopathies
- New approved drugs

Target audience
Early- and mid-career specialists who treat and diagnose SCD and Beta-Thalassemia patients. 1-2 years of experience working with SCD and Thalassemia patients and a medical degree in hematology or a related area are required.

EBAH CME accreditation
The preceptorship will be accredited by the EBAH system.
Participants of this preceptorship are eligible to receive one Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit point for every hour of accredited activity from the EBAH system.
