Patient organizations are essential partners for EHA. Patient advocates are represented in EHA committees (e.g. European Affairs) and task forces, invited to speak at EHA events, and valuable partners in European projects. Patients are also responsible for organizing two Patient Advocacy Sessions at EHA’s Annual Congress. Where possible, EHA and patient organizations work together to advocate issues of common interest, such as personalized medicine or clinical trials regulation.
At least once a year, EHA invites patient organizations to meet and discuss current issues of common concern, exchange information, and develop joint projects.
These organizations are European or international in scope. They are often umbrella organizations of national or disease-specific patient organizations. All of them represent patients with hematological diseases.
In order to create strong and dynamic networks, EHA exchanges information and views, and where possible endorsements, with national hematology societies across Europe.
Every year, representatives of national hematology societies and EHA meet during the Annual Congress to discuss items of primary importance and mutual interest, such as harmonization in education and specialty training and accessibility of high-quality continuing medical education (CME). These issues have an impact on the transfer of knowledge, mobility of specialists throughout Europe, and ultimately on the quality of patient care.
