SWG Grants

The call for applications is closed. The next call will be open in 2027.

Winners will be announced by the end of December 2026.

These grants are intended to support small, collaborative SWG-led research projects that strengthen scientific exchange, increase member engagement, and build lasting research networks across the EHA community.

Every year, we award grants to projects that will:

  • Help us build a collaborative network
  • Increase engagement within SWGs

What an SWG Grant can cover

SWG Grants can cover costs related to:

  • Data management
  • Data analysis
  • Sample collections and storage

They cannot be used to:

  • Support fellowships
  • Pay individual salaries
  • Purchase substantial equipment

How many grants will be avarded per this funding cycle?

Up to 5 SWG grants, each up to 30,000 EUR

Eligibility

Non-interventional studies, like retrospective studies or prospective data collection, are eligible for support.

Applications for basic research projects are also eligible. In these cases, we favor those that:

  • Take advantage of the collaborative nature of the SWG network
  • Encourage the mutual exchange of expertise

To increase diversity and support inclusion within our SWG community, we encourage proposals that involve:

  • Junior members
  • Partners from underrepresented countries

In all cases, the principal investigator(s) (PIs) must be EHA members and SWG members at the time of application.

Individual applications are not eligible for this call, because each project must foster collaboration and help build a network within the relevant SWG. Please include other SWG members in your project. Non-SWG or non-EHA members will not be counted as collaborators for this grant.

All applications should therefore be communicated internally within the relevant SWG before submission. Applicants will be asked to confirm this in the application.

The SWG Chair must submit the application, or be copied on the application email. This confirms that the application was presented to the group in advance. Each SWG may submit no more than 3 applications.

Selection

Winning grant applications are selected by the SWG Committee.

In making its decision, the committee considers:

• The scientific quality of the project
• The importance of the topic for further research/subsequent projects
• The explanation of the budget needs
• Cooperation and interaction within the SWG or with other SWGs
• Other sources of support that are already available for this project
• The overlap with ongoing/already funded projects
• The inclusion of junior members and/or partners from underrepresented countries
