Lighting the Flame Journal Club
A learning and connecting hematology experience led by alumni of the Lighting the Flame program.
The Lighting the Flame Journal Club is an online group that's open to all members of the Lighting the Flame community. Through a program of friendly and informal sessions, it aims to help:
- Foster collaboration
- Support professional growth
- Enhance engagement among Lighting the Flame participants and alumni
What a journal club event involves
Each monthly event focuses on a scientific article about a current topic in hematology.
Under the guidance of an expert mentor, you'll take part in a general discussion where you can analyze and learn more about a range of topics. These might include:
- Complex hematological concepts
- Diagnosis
- Sickness
- Treatments
Following this general discussion, you'll get an opportunity to join a breakout room that's tailored to your interests. Our three breakout rooms are the:
- Discussion room—where you can continue discussing the article with the mentor, presenter, and chair
- Career and hematology room—where you can exchange questions about hematology and career development with peers and experts
- Networking room—where you can reconnect with Lighting the Flame members and enjoy informal conversations
What you'll get if you join
The Lighting the Flame Journal Club offers an excellent opportunity for collaboration and growth for students, junior residents, and aspiring leaders in hematology.
Joining will help you to:
- Stay informed, and keep up with the latest developments in translational and clinical hematology
- Enhance your critical skills by learning how to analyze and interpret original scientific research
