Lighting the Flame program phases

A full guide to what our Lighting the Flame program involves, including dates of upcoming online workshops and in-person retreats.

Phase 1: online campus

In this phase, you can get around-the-clock access to:

  • Basic educational tools about hematology
  • Interviews, podcasts, and live online workshops with clinicians and researchers where they share insights and personal experiences
  • Hematology courses

Our online campus is organized in line with the EHA European Hematology Curriculum. As a user of the campus, you'll get:

  • Information that incorporates recent knowledge, diagnostic tools, and treatment modalities
  • A wide view of the field of hematology

Amongst other topics, campus resources cover:

  • Sickle cell diseases
  • Immunotherapy
  • Acute leukemia (clinical and research approaches)
  • Thalassemia
  • Pediatric hematology
  • Lymphoma
  • Mentorship

Who can take part

Any medical student, intern, or resident can take part in phase 1.

Phase 1 is free for everyone.

Phase 2: first retreat

The program's first retreat is a chance to:

  • Get to know more about hematology from both a clinical and research perspective
  • Network, and make connections with other medical students, interns, and residents who are interested in hematology, and also with mentors and experts in the field

Who can take part

You must meet specific selection criteria to take part in phase 2. We'll share the criteria in advance on this page.

Cost

Phase 2 is free, but you must meet the selection criteria to take part.

Upcoming phase 2 retreats

Our next retreat will be held in Tallinn, Estonia, from July 10 to 14, 2024.

Phase 3: second retreat

Phase 3 is a follow-up retreat that offers participants:

  • Educational meetings and activities on various areas of hematology
  • Guidance on more practical approaches to hematology

Who can take part

This follow-up event is open to the medical students, interns, and residents who took part in phase 2.

Cost

Phase 3 is free, but you must have taken part in phase 2.
