BENIGN HEMATOLOGY in 2023 and beyond

The term "benign hematology" has traditionally been used to refer to non-malignant blood disorders. However, over the past few years, questions have been raised as to the appropriate nomenclature for this category of diseases. In order to establish a unified terminology in Europe, the European Hematology Association (EHA) sought the input of 48 Specialized Working Group (SWG) Chairs, Vice-Chairs, and the EHA Patient Advocacy Committee, who are experts in the field. EHA conducted a comprehensive poll to determine which (new) term would best replace "benign hematology." The consensus among the experts was resoundingly in favor of the term "non-malignant," and as a result, EHA has decided to replace "benign hematology" with "non-malignant hematology" from now on.
