Junior and senior hematologists from all over the world gathered on April 29-30, 2021 for the live days of the EHA-SWG Scientific Meeting on Acquired Aplastic Anemia. A meeting organized by EHA and the EHA Scientific Working Group on Granulocyte and Constitutional Marrow Failure Syndromes. A well curated program presented a worldwide approach to the topic and offered an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about each aspect of the disease in one go.

The faculty of the Scientific Meeting consisted of an international group of experts in their respective fields, who connected from different continents and gave the latest updates through pre-recorded lectures, Live Keynotes, and Patient cases, and engaged in live Q&A panel discussions. The meeting gave insight to the diagnosis and treatment of severe aplastic anemia in Europe but also in countries with restricted resources. We discussed special aspects of AAA, the treatment of PNH, moderate AA and other supportive treatment options. To conclude the meeting, we stepped into the future perspectives looking at somatic mutations in AA and how to improve diagnostic accuracy of marrow failures.

The interactivity during the virtual meeting was great. Many attendees seized the opportunity and posted live questions during the session, which led to interesting discussions from the faculty.

One week prior to the live days, more than 200 delegates gained access to the online platform. This gave the attendees the opportunity to watch 15+ pre-recorded sessions and prepare all their questions for the Live Sessions and Q&A discussions. In addition the online platform was the place where attendees could meet, connect and interact with hematology peers by scheduling 1:1 meetings. The platform remained open until May 29, 2021, giving access to the content and peers for more than 30 days

EHA would like to thank Carlo Dufour, chair of the Virtual Scientific Meeting on Acquired Aplastic Anemia, as well as our sponsor IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini, faculty and attendees for their contribution in making the virtual meeting a great success!
