Hematology Tutorial in Sri Lanka updates expertise on myeloid malignancies and MDS of local hematologists

Tutorial Colombo 1

After a successful first edition in 2017, EHA and the Sri Lanka College of Haematologists (SLCH) organized its second two-day tutorial together in February in Colombo. The tutorial aimed to update the expertise of local hematologists from all levels.

Tutorial Colombo 1

The EHA-SLCH Hematology Tutorial on Myeloid Malignancies and MDS focused on further advancing the knowledge on myeloid malignancies and myelodysplastic syndromes and teach novel approaches on the treatment of these topics.

The program covered the following topics:

  • Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
  • Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
  • Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN)
  • Acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
  • Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL)
  • BMTx in acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
  • VTE in hematological malignancy
  • Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) / Chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL)

The tutorial aimed to educate the participants by using different hematology case studies and give them general and case-based knowledge so they can be better prepared to identify and treat disorders.

Wonderful academic experience. The content was very good. The presence of participants from outside Sri Lanka was very encouraging. - I Dharmasena, Speaker

Lectures, clinical cases and self-evaluation cases were used as presentation methods. Lectures provided the knowledge, clinical cases displayed the applied use of such knowledge and self-evaluation cases gave participants the chance to self-test the knowledge they were presented with.

After each clinical or self-evaluation case, there was enough time for interaction between participants and faculty. The participants took part in multiple self-assessment cases during the tutorial. A final evaluation was conducted to assess the efficiency of the tutorial.
