Previous awards
Before the introduction of its current awards program, EHA honored:
- Leaders in hematological research through the José Carreras Award (from 1999)
- Outstanding physicians and scientists by means of the Jean Bernard Lifetime Achievement Award (from 2008)
In 2018, two further awards were introduced during the 23rd Congress of EHA in Stockholm, Sweden. These were:
- The David Grimwade Award, which was established to honor outstanding basic and translational researchers in hematology
- The Education & Mentoring Award, which was introduced to honor those whose outstanding contributions to hematology education deserve acknowledgment and acclaim
