EHA Junior Research Grant

The next call for applications will open on 9 June, 2025, at 12:00 (CEST).   

The EHA Junior Research Grant is a type of EHA Research Grant. Successful applicants can receive €50,000 per year for three years.  

Like all EHA Research Grants, it’s designed to support the future of hematology by helping talented junior researchers to:  

  •    Conduct basic or translational lab-based research  
  •     Gain valuable research and leadership experience  
  •     Move towards becoming group leaders  
  •     Advance their careers   

Eligibility

General criteria for the EHA Research Grant

You’re eligible if:  

  • You’re an EHA member 
  • Your institute is an academic research center or proven equivalent in Europe 
  • You have the support of an academic department and institute 
  • Your application relates to basic and translational lab-based research in hematology  

Your application will not be eligible if it relates to: 

  • Purely clinical research projects 
  • Projects in health economics 
  • Other non-lab-based research 

However, it may be eligible if it relates to the translational part of a clinical trial. In this case, it must be both relevant and novel. 

Specific criteria for the EHA Junior Research Grant

Our Junior Research Grant is suitable for researchers who: 

  • Are currently carrying out basic or translational lab-based research in hematology 
  • Received a PhD or PharmD less than four years before the closing date listed above 

If you received your PhD or PharmD outside of this timeframe, please check our policy on life events. If this policy applies to you, you can ask us to extend the period of eligibility.

What an EHA Junior Research Grant covers

Like all EHA Research Grants, the EHA Junior Research Grant covers: 

  • Personnel costs (applicant or other research staff who will directly work on the project) 
  • Lab consumables  
  • Small equipment

You must use some of your grant to pay for:  

  • Attendance at the EHA Congress whilst your project is active (maximum €2,000 per PI per year)  
  • A final audit of your project’s financial costs (maximum €2,000 per PI) 

It does not cover: 

  •  Overhead costs 
  • Excessive travel costs (other than EHA Congress) 
  • Expenses that are not accompanied by an accurate and sound justification  
  • Costs for research performed completely and solely by others, instead of by the applicant 
  • Costs that are covered by another fund, even if new funding is acquired during the project, that make all or part of the EHA Research Grant redundant

If you acquire additional funding, you must email us [link to grants@ehaweb.org] about this within 30 days of its awarding. You must also tell us how you’ll use the grants together.
