A unique, nine-month-long training and mentoring experience designed to help early-career researchers build a successful career in clinical hematology research. 

Course overview

CRTH is a specialized training and mentoring experience that’s designed to help you advance your career by furthering your knowledge and skills in clinical science. Fueled by in-person sessions, the program focuses on clinical research in Europe while maintaining a global scope. As a program participant, you’ll attend: 

  • Two multi-day workshops in Europe 
  • A session at the EHA Congress 

The workshops are a mix of didactic and interactive sessions, both plenary and in smaller groups, designed to further your understanding of clinical research methodology and career development.  

Over the course of the program, you’ll: 

  • Meet mentors, peers, and faculty to expand your network 
  • Participate in smaller group discussions that will help refine your individual clinical trial 
  • Enjoy informal presentations by leaders in hematology that illustrate the variety of paths to a successful career in hematology research

Who should apply

This program serves as a springboard for early-career researchers looking to advance in their field through a specialized nine-month-long training and mentoring experience. 

You should apply if you: 

  • Are a hematologist working at an academic center or a large community hospital that is known for running clinical trials 
  • Have a keen interest and experience in designing and executing clinical trials 
  • Are looking for mentorship and want to achieve excellence as a clinical scientist 

You should also have an interest in clinical science and be able to prove this with either of the following: 

  • Evidence that you’ve been a co-investigator or have been involved in developing clinical trial protocols   
  • Authorship or co-authorship of publications about clinical trials

Learning objectives

  • Design and execute a clinical trial. 
  • Develop a strategy for effective collaboration with various stakeholders in the clinical research project. 
  • Learn to use statistics effectively. 
  • Learn to handle common problems occurring during the conduct of a clinical trial. 
  • Recognize the ethical and regulatory framework relevant to clinical research. 
  • Discuss and apply effective publication strategies. 
  • Learn how to plan the trial budget.  
  • Learn how to plan for the staff needed. 
  • Learn to present the project to diverse audiences. 
  • Examine the fundamentals of competitive grant and abstract writing and manuscript preparation and presentation. 
  • Understanding and applying the basic principles of meta-analyses. 
  • Formulate strategies for pursuing and developing a successful career in hematological research. 
  • Discuss approaches to forming and sustaining a multi-disciplinary clinical research team. 
  • Develop relationships with the other participants and faculty to enhance professional networking opportunities.

  • Experts in regulatory and ethical aspects of clinical research
