How to apply (CRTH)
Before you begin
Make sure you’ve read:
- Our overview of dates, details, and conditions
If you have not yet done so, you’ll also need to become an EHA member.
EHA Portal account
To apply, you must be registered on the EHA Portal.
If you already have an EHA Portal account
You can either:
- Log in using your existing credentials
- Select ‘Reset or create password’ if you cannot remember your details
When you log in, make sure you use the email address that EHA has on file.
If you do not have an EHA Portal account
Go to the EHA Portal and follow the steps under the ‘Create your user profile’ heading.
Please keep in mind that, once you register, it may take up to two business days before your registration is processed and you get access to the system.
Registrations are approved from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, Amsterdam time.
If you submit your application after the deadline date due to late EHA Portal registration, it will not be considered.

Application documents
To apply for CRTH, you should complete the application form on the EHA Portal. You’ll find the instructions on the platform.
In the application form, you’ll fill in the following sections:
1. Signature letter
You should:
- Download our signature letter template
- Fill out the required information
- Sign the letter
- Upload it to the EHA Portal
2. CV
This should list your:
- Publications
- Education and employment
- Other experience and professional memberships
3. Clinical research profile
This should list your:
- Your learning goals
- Your motivation
- Details of the top five trials you’ve been involved in
4. Clinical trial project proposal
Your proposal should be clear and concise—think abstract. You should answer all of the questions outlined in the online template on the EHA Portal.
If you’re selected for CRTH, you’ll be working on this project with the faculty. For this reason, you should make sure you follow the rules below
- Ensure the trial idea is yours, not that of your mentor, supervisor, or head of department
- Do not submit a trial idea that is already underway and cannot be changed
- If you decide to make changes to your trial design, you should be able to implement them during your participation in CRTH
- We’ll assume you’re the primary clinical investigator, so fill in the form accordingly
5. Flowchart
If you have a complex design, you can also upload a research design flowchart. This is not mandatory.
6. Support letter from supervisor
This letter must:
- Be on official letterhead
- Highlight your potential and likelihood of success in an academic career
- Explain how the CRTH program will benefit you
- Outline the supervision and support you’ll receive during the CRTH award year
- Include a commitment from your supervisor to provide a supportive environment for your research
Specific project information you’ll be asked to provide
You’ll need to share:
- The title of your project
- A summary of the background and justification for the research
You’ll also be asked to provide information on:
- Design
- Main eligibility criteria
- Control arm
- Summary of treatments
- Endpoints
- Sample size
- Feasibility
- Potential challenges
- Potential impact
- The infrastructure of your institute (as guided by the questions in the template)
What happens after you apply
Your application will be evaluated by the CRTH Leadership Members, which is also responsible for the final selection of scholars.
