General nomination criteria
Our refreshed EHA Awards program is designed to recognize and encourage the extraordinary achievements of individuals across the field of hematology.
The following points apply to all of our awards apart from the HemaSphere Editors' Pick Award.
- EHA Awards are open to the entire EHA community. To nominate or be nominated, you must be an EHA member.
- Awards are open to all, as long as the nominated person meets the specific award criteria (below).
- Both the nominating and the nominated person can be based anywhere in the world.
- EHA values nominations from that come from underrepresented regions, promote gender balance, and foster an inclusive community.
Criteria for specific awards
EHA Lifetime Achievement Award
The EHA Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded for an extraordinary lifetime contribution to the field of hematology.
The nominated person must have:
- Made a valuable contribution to the field of hematology over at least a 20-year period
- Shown dedication to their work and commitment to furthering the field of hematology
- Been responsible for pioneering and innovative work in their field
The EHA Board, Specialized Working Groups (SWGs), and EHA committees can submit individual nominations for this award.
EHA Clinical Excellence Award
The EHA Clinical Excellence Award is awarded for an extraordinary achievement or commitment to the clinical or clinical research field.
The nominated person must have:
- Made a valuable contribution to the field of hematology
- Shown dedication to their work and commitment to furthering the field of hematology
- Been responsible for pioneering and innovative work in the clinical or clinical research field
The EHA Board, Specialized Working Groups (SWGs), and EHA committees can submit individual nominations for this award.
EHA Research Excellence Award
The EHA Research Excellence Award is awarded for an extraordinary achievement or commitment to basic and translational research.
The nominated person must have:
- Made a valuable contribution to the field of hematology
- Shown dedication to their work and commitment to furthering the field of hematology
- Been responsible for pioneering and innovative work in the field of basic or translational research
The EHA Board, Specialized Working Groups (SWGs), and EHA committees can submit individual nominations for this award.
EHA Education and Mentoring Award
The EHA Education and Mentoring Award is awarded for achievement in:
- Education, including education technology
- Evaluation methods
- Administrative efforts
- Other topics and efforts related to student education and/or in support of research mentorship
The nominated person must have:
- Made a valuable contribution to the field of hematology
- Shown dedication to their work and commitment to furthering the field of hematology
- Been responsible for pioneering and innovative work in education or mentoring in the field of hematology
All nominations must include a supporting motivation letter.

EHA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award
The EHA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Award is awarded for an achievement or commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrating DEI principles.
The nominated person must have:
- Made a valuable contribution to the field of hematology
- Shown dedication to their work and commitment to furthering the field of hematology
- Been responsible for pioneering and innovative work in DEI in the field of hematology
All nominations must include a supporting motivation letter.

Young EHA Award
The EHA Young EHA Award is awarded for an extraordinary achievement in the clinicial or research field that has benefited the early-career community.
The nominated person must have:
- Made a valuable contribution to the field of hematology
- Shown dedication to their work and commitment to furthering the field of hematology
- Been responsible for pioneering and innovative work to support the early-career community in the field of hematology
All nominations must include a supporting motivation letter.

HemaSphere Editors' Pick Award
The HemaSphere Editors' Pick Award is awarded to the highest-cited paper in HemaSphere.
It's voted for by the journal's editors.
