FUNDING ALERT: Calls published on ATMPs, T cells and cancer research
In recent weeks, two Calls for proposals were published that offer relevant funding opportunities for hematologists:
1. IMI2 – 18th Call for proposals
The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is a jointly funded partnership between the European Union, represented by the European Commission, and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA). On June 19, IMI2 – Call 18 was announced, including the following topics:
Topic 5 - Accelerating research and innovation for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products
Topic 6 - Supporting the development of engineered T cells
Of interest may also be Topic 4: Establishing international standards in the analysis of patient reported outcomes and health-related quality of life data in cancer clinical trials.
Deadline 1st submission: September 26, 2019

2. Horizon 2020 – Call for cancer research proposals
On July 4, the European Commission published the last H2020 call for research proposals in the category ‘Societal Challenge 1 (SC1): Health, demographic change and wellbeing’. Topics include:
- Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) - Prevention and/or early diagnosis of cancer (SC1-BHC-17-2020; focuses on implementation research)
- ERA-NET: Sustained collaboration of national and regional programmes in cancer research (SC1-HCO-14-2020; brings together public cancer research funders and cancer charities/foundations)
- AI for Genomics and Personalised Medicine (DT-TDS-04-2020)
- Personalised early risk prediction, prevention and intervention based on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data technologies (SC1-DTH-02-2020)
- New interventions for Non-Communicable Diseases (SC1-BHC-08-2020; early clinical trials)
