Stakeholder involvement and alliances

Stakeholder engagement

Our approach to policy and regulatory affairs involves collaboration across medical professions and disciplines. We’ve built positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including:

  • Patient organizations (EHA PAC)
  • Specialist nurses (HNHCP)
  • Medical Societies
  • Industry federations
  • Health authorities
  • Research organizations
  • ERN-EuroBloodNet

We align with stakeholders to—when possible and appropriate—develop joint positions, ensure complementarity of actions, and optimize impact.

The patient perspective

Patients are at the heart of everything we do.

As a medical society, we strive to include the patient perspective in every domain—including our policy and regulatory work.

European legislation and regulatory discussions must:

  • Reflect the reality of patients
  • Respond to their needs and concerns

Our European Affairs team therefore works closely together with patient organizations to keep them informed and involved, and to amplify their voice.

Alliances

EHA is a member of the following alliances:

BioMed Alliance

The BioMed Alliance https://www.biomedeurope.org/ is the collective voice for European medical societies. As an engaged and leading member, EHA contributes to common efforts for better EU policy and legislation, including leading the alliance’s work on Health Technology Assessment (HTA).

The BioMed Alliance is presided over by EHA board member Elizabeth Macintyre.

European Cancer Organisation (ECO)

ECO aims to reduce the burden of cancer, and improve outcomes and the quality of care for cancer patients.

EHA is an active contributor by:

  • Providing input for positioning on crucial legislative files
  • Jointly advocating for better and more effective EU research policies
  • Participating in joint work on digital health, inequalities in cancer care, and workforce mobility
