European Affairs Committee members
EHA represents the interests of hematology and hematologists in its interactions with EU institutions, regulators, patients, specialist nurses, industry, and other medical disciplines. The European Affairs Committee informs, guides, and actively contributes to EHA’s policy, advocacy, and regulatory work at European level.

The European Affairs Committee’s overarching priorities are:
- Access to innovative diagnostics and treatments
- Support for hematology research, including increased funding and improved governance
- Better regulation, with a focus on influencing the design and implementation of EU legislation
Cross‑cutting policy themes include affordability, clinical trials, health data, Health Technology Assessment (HTA), and personalized medicine.
We are looking for two European Affairs Committee members who meet the following criteria:
- Clinical hematologists, with a strong interest in EU policy and regulatory affairs, ideally with prior exposure to these topics.
- Driven to strengthen EHA’s role as the voice of hematologists in Europe.
- Motivated to contribute to the formulation of EHA positions and recommendations for policymakers, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
- Eager to represent EHA, when appropriate, in meetings or events with EU institutions, multistakeholder networks, and partners.
- Available to participate in committee activities, including approximately six virtual meetings and two in‑person meetings per year.
Specific affinity or experience in one or more of the following areas will be considered an asset:
- First‑hand experience with Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).
- Medical specialization in transfusion medicine and/or substances of human origin.
- Existing expertise or understanding of the EU legislative and regulatory framework governing ATMPs and SoHO.
Workload
The time commitment for a committee member is approximately 1-2 hours per month, excluding external representations. The exact workload is heavily context-dependent and can vary considerably throughout a committee member’s tenure.
Appointment
Appointment is for a period of 3 years with the possibility of 1 reappointment.
