EHA Accelerates Growth and Charts Its Path to 2030

The European Hematology Association (EHA) will enter 2026 with strong momentum, driven by record membership growth, rising global engagement, and a long-term strategy aimed at advancing research, education, and equitable access to care across the hematology field.

EHA’s membership has exceeded 11,000 for the first time reflecting the association’s growing relevance and trust among hematology professionals, not just in Europe but worldwide.

Satisfaction and advocacy indicators continue to strengthen according to the results of 2025 annual membership survey, signalling rising confidence in EHA’s direction. Young EHA now accounts for nearly half of all members, underscoring the association’s success in nurturing emerging talent and supporting early-career development.

Joint memberships with national societies have expanded to 15, with three more underway, which means that members save money, time and get access to the best of both worlds and are connected to the wider community, while participation in EHA’s 25 Specialized Working Groups grew by 23% from 1095 in 2024 to 1429 in 2025, evidence of the increasing demand for expert exchange and professional connectivity within the field.

EHA’s impact across research and education also continues to grow.

Its research grant funding portfolio has generated 425 publications and 89 new collaborations which is a clear indicator of EHA’s pivotal role not just in funding grants, but also in building strong, effective networks that drive innovation and scientific progress.

The open-access scientific journal, HemaSphere, achieved an Impact Factor of 14.6, ranking fifth among indexed hematology journals globally and marking a new milestone in scientific visibility for the association.

Educational activity expanded further with twelve new courses launched in 2025 spanning key areas in hematology: CAR T-cell therapy, lymphoma, AML, and dedicated courses on patient communication and scientific presentation. The topics reflect the progress in the field and strong interest shown by our community during recent congress sessions. The EHA Unplugged podcasts reached 21,000 unique listeners, demonstrating the value of accessible, on-demand learning formats.

The EHA2025 Congress reinforced the association’s global reach, welcoming 17,780 delegates from 140 countries and featuring over 4,000 abstracts and 575 presentations. The event’s scale and scientific breadth underscore EHA’s central position as the driving force that brings together, researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders.

Looking ahead, EHA is advancing a comprehensive strategic framework with five long-term ambitions guiding its work toward 2030: nurturing knowledge, fostering an innovative environment, supporting high-impact research, advocating for equitable access to care, and empowering a diverse, digitally connected hematology community. These ambitions respond directly to emerging challenges, from specialist shortages to inequities across Europe in diagnostics, treatments, and research participation.

EHA President Professor Konstanze Döhner emphasized the organization’s forward-looking priorities: “Our focus is on expanding equitable access to education, research, clinical trials, and treatment, especially for colleagues in underrepresented countries, while ensuring that EHA remains sustainable and aligned with our long-term ambitions for 2030.”

With a growing global network and a clear strategic direction, EHA is mobilizing professionals, sharing knowledge and connecting interests to advocate hematology in Europe and beyond.

ENDS.

Note for editors:
The European Hematology Association (EHA) is a membership organization serving a community of over 11,000 medical professionals, researchers, and scientists with an active interest in hematology. EHA is the largest Europe-based organization connecting hematologists worldwide and supports career development and research, harmonizes hematology education, and advocates for hematologists and hematology.

EHA will participate in this year’s American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, FL, United States from December 6-9. Our presence at ASH is an affirmation of our commitment to Borderless Hematology, a vision that progress in patient care, research, and education is made possible through global partnership. We will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ASH-EHA joint symposium on December 7, 12:30–13:30 (EDT). ASH delegates are invited to learn more about EHA at booth #1482.
