EHA-SWG Scientific Workshop on From Aging Hematopoietic Stem Cells to Age-related Diseases: Opportunities for Intervention
Dates: November 13-15, 2025
Location: Barcelona, Spain
Chairs: M Essers, E Laurenti, S Valletta, K Kirschner
Key Scientific Focus Areas
The workshop explored critical topics spanning the spectrum from fundamental biology to therapeutic applications, including advances in HSC aging mechanisms and cellular senescence, clonal hematopoiesis and its clinical implications, biomarkers for predicting aging and disease progression, the role of immunosenescence and inflammaging, and strategies for developing preventive therapies and identifying at-risk individuals.
Interactive Format
Capped at 60 participants, the workshop fostered meaningful collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and patient advocates. All selected participants had the opportunity to present their research, facilitating dynamic discussions and knowledge exchange across traditionally siloed communities.
Educational Impact
Participants gained comprehensive insights into how the hematopoietic system and bone marrow microenvironment change with age, understanding of age-related hematologic disorders in elderly patients, familiarity with experimental models for studying hematopoietic aging, and approaches to identifying high-risk individuals and mitigating disease risk.
This EBAH-accredited meeting successfully united stem cell biology and aging communities, creating new opportunities for translational research and improved patient care.
