EHA holds its 2025 Annual General Meeting

The 2025 EHA Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in Milan, Italy, on June 12, 2025.

Held on Thursday evening during the EHA Congress, the meeting followed a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation. This inclusive approach enabled broader engagement from EHA members across the globe.

The AGM serves as a platform for EHA members to vote on key governance matters, reflect on the association’s progress, and shape its future direction. Members gained insights into EHA’s achievements over the past year, reviewed financial performance, and welcomed new board members.

EHA President Antonio Almeida opened the meeting and presented the 2024 Annual Report, highlighting a 26% growth in membership, 17,896 attendances at EHA2024 in Madrid, and expanded educational offerings. The report also noted €75.9 million invested in hematology research, resulting in 425 publications and 89 new collaborations.

Treasurer Martin Dreyling delivered the 2024 financial report, outlining the association’s assets, liabilities, and net results. The 2024 financial statements and the 2025 budget were formally approved by the members.

Guest speaker Prof Walter Ricciardi delivered a compelling presentation on “Courageous Leadership in Science and Health,” emphasizing the importance of integrity, resilience, and evidence-based decision-making in today’s complex global landscape.

The Nomination Committee, led by Tony Green, announced the results of the 2025–2029 Board elections. Five new Councilors were welcomed: Julio Delgado, Michael Hudecek, Satu Mustjoki, Sirpa Leppä, and Jan Trka.

The meeting also marked a leadership transition. Prof Antonio Almeida bid farewell to outgoing Board members and welcomed Prof Konstanze Döhner as the new EHA President for 2025–2027, where she looked at “Moving forward to achieve a future-focused and inclusive hematology community 2025–2026.”

She emphasized EHA’s commitment to advocacy, health equity, scientific excellence, and career development across all stages of the hematology profession.
