Highlights
SWG highlights from 2024
- Holding a session on ‘Platelets and hematological neoplasms’ at the EHA2024 Congress on June 14, 2024, in Madrid, Spain.
- Organizing the EHA-SWG Scientific Meeting on Bleeding and Platelet Disorders: Advances in Pathology, Diagnosis, and Management. This EHA-approved in-person joint meeting with the SWG on Bleeding and Thrombosis will be held April 2026.
- Winning SWG Grant funding for the SWG-initiated European registry on Inherited Platelet Disorders (IPD) project.
- Participating in the creation of Overarching SWG on Diagnostics in Hematology.
- Participating in the ongoing EHA guidelines initiative on mild-to-moderate bleeding disorders (coordinator: Francesco Rodeghiero).
- Launching the international survey on gastrointestinal bleeding in Glanzmann thrombasthenia patients.
In addition, Paolo Gresele and Francesco Rodeghiero contributed to the ‘Thrombocytopenia’ chapter of the EHA booklet ‘Hematology Beginners’ Helper’—a project by EHA and the Young National Society Ambassadors.
Follow-up activities
- Official launch of the international European registry on IPD.
- Completion and analysis of results of the international survey on gastrointestinal bleeding in Glanzmann thrombasthenia patients.
- Proposal of an update of the international guidelines on the diagnosis of inherited platelet function disorders—jointly with the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).

With the SWG on Bleeding and Thrombosis, we’ve organized the EHA-SWG Scientific Meeting on Bleeding and Platelet Disorders: Advances in Pathology, Diagnosis, and Management. The meeting will be held April 2026.
