EHA Statement: Our sustained solidarity with the hematology community in Ukraine

Friday, February 24 marks one year of war. The European Hematology Association (EHA) stands in solidarity with our colleagues and friends in Ukraine. EHA President Prof Elizabeth Macintyre says: "We would like to pay tribute to the incredible courage and resilience of the Ukrainian hematology community in the past year. EHA is committed to supporting them and their patients for the long term."

Since April 2022, EHA and our partners have launched a variety of projects to support Ukrainian hematologists, patients and their families. The Ukraine Bridge Funding program helps Ukrainian hematologists and scientists who have sought refuge in Europe maintain their skills or acquire new ones. It aims to restrengthen the foundations for hematology in the country after the war. Thanks to the Ukrainian Hematology Association, Helping to Leave, and Lymphoma Coalition Europe, patients were transferred to European hospitals. EHA has also concentrated its efforts on coordinating the delivery of critical medical supplies to hospitals with Médecins Sans Frontières, Lymphoma Coalition, the European Union, and the World Health Organization through the ECO-ASCO Special Network for Ukraine.

Prof Macintyre underlines: "All wars end, and so will this one. At EHA, we feel tremendously encouraged by the unwavering dedication, determination, and hard work of our partners."
