Overarching SWG on Diagnostics in Hematology
Background
EHA recognizes the importance of diagnostics for the broad hematology community. However, it was felt that it was scattered across different committees, taskforces, and specialized working groups (SWGs). We needed a dedicated, more centralized group that brings together leaders from diagnostic disciplines and communities across hematology.
Creation of the SWG
On September 25, 2023, the EHA Board Task Force on Diagnostics held a brainstorming session on the creation of a new EHA leadership group on diagnostics. The participants were the Task Force members (Elizabeth Macintyre, Jean-Pierre Bourquin, and Margarita Guenova) and invited leaders from:
- The IVD Task Force
- Relevant SWGs
- The European Association for Haematopathology (EA4HP)
Participants supported the idea of creating an Overarching SWG on Diagnostics.
On January 24, 2024, the EHA Board approved the creation of this SWG. The group had a kick-off meeting on February 16, 2024.
Focus for the SWG
- Harmonization and standardization of diagnostics in hematology.
- Education for young and advanced hematologists (preceptorships and internships), including organization, with ISLH, of the laboratory hematology workshop during Congress.
- Engagement with regulatory bodies.
