The European Hematology Association (EHA), located in the heart of The Hague (the Netherlands), is a non-profit professional association serving clinicians and researchers with an active interest in hematology in Europe and beyond. Our mission is to promote excellence in patient care through education, research, and advocacy.

Hematology is constantly changing and evolving. We help our members stay up to date by delivering a structured educational program, created by hematologists for hematologists. We offer a range of career development programs to help clinicians and researchers grow professionally and personally. We also advocate for hematologists and hematology at local and international levels.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Production Manager, Scientific Publications (32–40 hours per week).

About the role

The Production Manager, Scientific Publications, is part of the EHA Scientific Publications team and reports to the Head of Scientific Publications.

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the operational voice and strategic direction towards both the Editorial Board (EB) of content and operations within EHA scientific publications.

You will oversee the editorial process from concept to publication, ensuring that content aligns with our standards, goals, and readers' expectations.

The role is a strategic mix of planning, management, teamwork, execution, and quality control, all aimed at producing a compelling, accurate, and fast-growing publishing portfolio that resonates with the EHA audience.

The main duties include daily collaborations with cross-functional stakeholders and teams of editors, authors, vendors, and graphic designers ensuring quality, tone, and style

Your responsibilities

  • Develop the production strategy and direction.
  • Implement editorial strategies to meet EHA's global objectives.
  • Support the Editorial Board in decision-making journal processes and transforming concepts into actionable plans.
  • Monitor industry trends and adapt our content strategy accordingly to stay abreast of industry trends, emerging topics, and other publications.
  • Manage the entire editorial process, coordinating contributors to ensure high-quality content and adherence to publication deadlines/standards.
  • Streamline workflows, implement automation tools for efficient process tracking, generate new ideas, and continuously solve bottlenecks in order to increase efficiency within department.
  • Drive the planning and execution of editorial projects, ensuring alignment with organizational and unit goals, and with measurable success and growth.
  • Oversee performance analytics, audits, budgetary goals, and decision-making processes to enhance content quality and operational effectiveness.
  • Foster and sustain professional relationships with all stakeholders, including external promotion (events).
  • Serve as the primary contact for all parties involved in the publication lifecycle, addressing inquiries to maintain high standards of quality customer service.
  • Oversee contracts, quotations, forecasting, and invoicing, to ensure project progress with vendors and adherence to the guidance.
  • Maintain operational engagement excellence with the publisher, and handle tasks necessary for the consistent output of the journal's content.
  • Ensure the expertise of EHA Executive Office is optimally being used for projects and the continuous work of the Scientific Publications department.
  • Remain accountable for project results, by defining actions and coordinating tasks with internal EHA peers—for example, collaborating with our PR team for marketing-related topics, Events/Meetings colleagues for logistical matters, etc.

Your profile

  • A Bachelor’s degree or (ideally) Master’s degree in Science(s), Communication or a related field.
  • Over six years’ experience of project or program management experience in medical publishing or related field.
  • Knowledge about healthcare, medical communication, or scientific publishing.
  • Ability to fluently communicate in English (in writing and orally).
  • Project or program management experience in healthcare, medical communication, or scientific publishing sectors is an advantage.
  • Proficient in strategic communication and interpersonal relations, with a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team (and independently).
  • Demonstrable expertise in project management within scientific medical publishing, with a track record of efficient managing of journal portfolio.
  • Skills in leveraging technology, analytics, and systems to enhance operational efficiency and improvements.
  • Adept at identifying and resolving bottlenecks through innovative problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • A forward-thinking ability to expand the publication portfolio and explore new avenues for the journal(s).
  • Good stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience of working with the pharmaceutical and or biotech industry is a plus.
  • Living in the Netherlands (for non-European nationals, possession of a valid work permit is required).
