The European Hematology Association (EHA), located in the heart of The Hague (Netherlands) is a non-profit professional association serving clinicians and researchers with an active interest in hematology in Europe and beyond. Our mission is to promote excellence in patient care through education, research, and advocacy.


Hematology is constantly changing and evolving. We help our members stay up to date by delivering a structured educational program, created by hematologists for hematologists. We offer a range of career development programs to help clinicians and researchers grow professionally and personally. We also advocate for hematologists and hematology at local and international levels.

Senior Business Development Specialist

(40 hours per week)


This role is perfect for an experienced individual who wants to work for an organization with a definite purpose and for whom making a meaningful difference in the world is important.


As the Senior Business Development Specialist, you will contribute to the realization of EHA’s revenue goals through the development and implementation of commercially minded sponsorship strategies, diversifying and consolidating opportunities for this.

Your responsibilities:

  • Business Development:
    • Identify new short- and long-term business opportunities through meetings, networking, and other channels.
    • Explore ventures such as paid activities, sponsor alliances, reward partnerships, new services, income streams, and fundraising endeavors.
    • Evaluate, develop, and co-execute strategies to grow EHA.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Create and maintain trust-based relationships with vital sponsors and key partners.
    • Act as a growth catalyst to increase success chances for EHA.
    • Develop and maintain a diverse sponsor pipeline to expand EHA’s sponsorship portfolio.
  • Sponsor Recruitment & Contract Management:
    • Explore and secure suitable sponsorship investment opportunities.
    • Guide and secure contracts from inception to completion.
    • Negotiate and close business deals promoting sustained revenue.
  • Communication:
    • Develop and implement personalized communication processes to keep sponsors engaged and informed.
    • Foster cross-functional communication within EHA, building relationships across the organization.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with Marketing & PR teams for suitable collateral and event support.
    • Work with Congress & Meetings Teams to ensure sponsor obligations are met and exceeded.
  • Budget Management:
    • Set and manage Corporate Relations & Sponsorship annual expense budget.
    • Monitor revenue streams and identify opportunities to increase profitability.

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Sales, Business, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proven track record of success in Corporate/Public Relations and Sponsorship with a strong commercial focus.
  • Experience in the non-profit or associations sector.
  • Healthcare/Medical/Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology/Start-Up background advantageous.
  • Native-level spoken and written English; other EU languages are an advantage.
  • Certifications (PMP, CBDM, CPD, BDP) welcome but not mandatory.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Good judgment and the ability to address issues or concerns.
  • Confident and professional manner with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with a passion for sales and marketing.
  • Customer/Community-oriented mindset.
  • Living in the Netherlands (for non-European nationals, being in possession of a valid work permit is required).

  • The salary range is between €4.500,- and € 6.500,-  gross per month based on full-time employment.
